European Union Insurance Legislation and Implementation – Seminar Held in Cooperation with TSRSB and TAIEX

The Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey, in the context of its activities to facilitate the harmonization process of Turkish insurance sector to the EU insurance acquis and to present proposals to find solutions to the problems that may arise during this process, has applied to TAIEX Office (Technical Assistance Information Exchange Unit) of the European Commission DG Enlargement on January 17, 2005 for a project.

The seminar entitled “European Union Insurance Legislation and Implementation” was held in Istanbul on June 23-24, 2005 with the participation of public and private sector representatives, academicians and other interested persons and institutions.
The seminar, taking into account the Regular Report published every year by the European Commission, included technical information, on problematic issues for the Turkish insurance sector in its accession process to the EU, such as “financial reports”, “accounting plans”, “insurance statistics”, “financial monitoring and statistical regulations” and “solvency”.

Presentations on EU regulations and its implementations were made by the managers of the European supervisory authorities, ombudsmen, experts from different insurance associations and academicians.

The above-mentioned papers on EU regulations and implementations of the EU member countries have been compiled in this reference book in order to deliver the information to the whole sector.

We wish that this book would be useful for all sector professionals and for all other interested parties.
